What is International Dot Day?
A celebration that honors creativity and the courage and collaboration it inspires
Beloved former Iowa educator and Novel Effect Ambassador, Terry Shay started the festivities when he introduced The Dot to his students on September 15, 2009. Terry suggested kids make their own dots on September 15th after seeing the book’s publication date on Amazon. Later, in 2011, author and illustrator Peter Reynolds named the day International Dot Day.
Since then, nearly 26.5 million children and adults have thought outside the dot—creating together in new, imaginative ways on or around September 15th each year.

This year, International Dot Day is marking it's 15th anniversary!
Join us, with our community of teachers, librarians, and parents as we take part in this global celebration of creative, courageous collaboration by reading aloud The Dot together!
Our team of soundscape designers, educators, and artists has created fun ways for you and your students to participate this year! After you read aloud The Dot with Novel Effect use our free, printable activities to encourage your little learners to explore their creativity by making their own dots.
