Novel Effect is looking for a Director of Sales to expand Novel Effect’s read- aloud magic to school districts. Based in Seattle, WA, Novel Effect is a rapidly growing edtech startup focused on making reading together magical for kids and their grownups. The award winning Novel Effect app synchronizes music, sound effects, and character voices to reading a book aloud to make an immersive read-aloud experience that captures the attention of every learner!

The Director of Sales will be instrumental in growing revenue from school districts. We have established a major presence at a teacher and school level across the US, and aim to leverage our grassroots success to target growth and expansion at the district and state level. The Director of Sales will spearhead our efforts.

Requirements

  • 4+ years in B2B education sales in K-12, particularly at the district level or higher
  • Creative writing and marketing skills with emails, journeys, presentations, sales brochures, etc.
  • Comfort with content development tools like Adobe Acrobat, Google Slides or PowerPoint, etc.
  • Comfort with CRM tools like Hubspot, Zendesk Sell, or the like
  • Comfort with RFPs, vendor registrations, and navigating “red tape” to close sales opportunities 
  • Analytical with deep curiosity, willingness to learn, and a relentless problem-solving attitude
  • Data-driven approach to lead generation, sales, and forecasting
  • Kind, collaborative, and an outstanding team player

Responsibilities

  • Source, cultivate, and close sales of Novel Effect to elementary schools, districts, and public libraries.
    • Source leads from internal customers (existing school customers with opportunities for district sales) and external opportunities (events like ISTE, NAESP, TCEA, and leads databases) 
    • Cultivate leads to a quote over email, demo video calls, phone, and in- person
    • CLOSE THE SALE
  • Be the team expert in the K-12 market, with a deep understanding of how purchases are made at a district and state level and how they can be influenced 
  • Summarize customer and competitive landscapes for the leadership team
  • Stay up-to-date on school budgeting concerns and government funding opportunities (i.e. ESSR) 
  • Identify, test, and implement strategies for leads, sales funnels, and revenue growth
  • Initiate, create, and deliver high-impact content (demo, pitch decks, emails, etc.) to tell our story to school and library decision makers
  • Accurately track weighted pipeline and sales with CRM 
  • Set and exceed monthly sales forecasts
  • Navigate customer procurement processes, including vendor applications, RFPs, and bids
  • Continuously nurture and expand sales, international expansion, and competitive readiness
  • Coordinate with Community Success team to onboard new customers and ensure they are set up for success
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with the product and in-app content teams to make sure we are listening to our customers and enhancing our product offerings to best serve their needs and pain points.
