Do you know that National Grandparents’ Day falls on the first Sunday of the month after Labor Day? When grandparents read aloud to their grandchildren, they strengthen a special relationship. Nothing compares to grandparents reading to their grandchildren. Whether grandparents live near or far, grandparent picture books highlight their special relationship.
In reading to their grandchildren, grandparents show them the fun of reading. Those experiences will benefit grandchildren for years to come as they share them. It doesn’t matter whether the books have strong moral messages or are just plain silly, they develop an enthusiasm for reading.

Grandfather’s Journey
While Allen Say’s grandfather marvels at America’s sights, he will never forget the music of kotos and Japanese flutes. The sounds of his homeland are woven throughout the soundscape. Thank You, Omu
Omu’s delicious stew is a dream come true for everyone in the neighborhood! One by one, they follow their noses toward the scrumptious scent. Each of them receives a portion of Omu’s meal. Soon the pot is empty. Is she so generous that she has nothing left for herself?
This story is gently pushed along by highly interactive music. Trills and flourishes from the strings that follow the scent of Omu’s stew up the hall, out the windows, etc. Then about a dozen voices thank Omu.
Strega Nona’s Harvest
Strega Nona teaches Big Anthony her secret gardening techniques, but he ignores the lesson on organization. What will he do with his haphazard harvest? Throughout the journey, an authentic accordion melody is played. You’ll love Tomie dePaola’s book about eating local, growing, and sharing.

With charming sounds that bring back memories of childhood and perhaps even the beach, this music celebrates the special bond between grandparent and grandchild.
