iOS SCREEN SHARING USING JUST YOUR iOS DEVICE

Before you start, update your iOS device:

• The latest version of Novel Effect installed
• iOS 11 or higher
• Zoom mobile app for iOS version 4.1.18611.1228 or higher

First-time setup

1. Open the iOS Settings app on your phone or tablet
2. Tap Control Center.
3. Tap the + next to Screen Recording to add Screen Recording to your Control Center.

Starting a screen share in your Zoom meeting

1. If this is your first time sharing your entire screen and you have not set up Screen Recording in your iOS device’s Control center follow the frst-time setup instructions above before proceeding.
2. In the Zoom app meeting controls, tap Share Content. The meeting controls will be at the bottom of your screen on an iPhone and the top right of your screen on an iPad.
3. Tap Screen.
4. Access the Control Center.
   – On iPhone 8 or older or iPads running iOS 11, swipe up from the bottom.
   – On iPhone X or iPads running iOS 12, swipe down from the top right.
5. Hold down on the record button until the Screen Recording option appears.
6. Tap Zoom.
7. Tap Start Broadcast.
   – After a count of 3, your entire device screen will be shared into the meeting.
8. Tap on the screen again to view the meeting window.
9. Tap Share Device Audio to enable audio sharing for your device while screen sharing.
10. From your device home screen open the Novel Effect App
    – Select your book, tap PRINT or EBOOK to begin, then read aloud.
11. Tap the red bar at the top of your screen when you are ready to end the share.
12. Tap Stop.
13. Tap the red bar again to open Zoom.

SHARING YOUR SCREEN (iOS) WITH THE ZOOM DESKTOP CLIENT

Before you start, if screen mirroring:

• Zoom client for Windows or Mac 3.5.27094.0918 or later 
• Computer and iOS device on the same network
• Install the plug-in from the Zoom Download Center for sharing iPhone/iPad
• iPhone 4 or later; iPad; iPad mini, 4th generation or later
• Network and computer firewalls allowing Airplay access

Before you start, if wired sharing:

• Mac OS 10.10 or later
• Zoom client for macOS 4.0 or later
• iOS device running iOS 8 or later with the latest version of Novel Effect installed
• Lightning cable

Sharing your screen with screen mirroring

1. In your Zoom meeting, click Share Screen
2. Choose iPhone/iPad.
3. To share your phone and Novel Effect audio into the meeting, check Share sound
4. Click Share.
5. If prompted, choose to install the plug-in.
6. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your iOS device.
   – On your phone, swipe up to access the control center.
   – Tap Screen Mirroring.
   – Choose the Zoom-your computer option.
   – Your phone screen and audio are now shared into the meeting.
7. From your iOS device home screen open the Novel Effect App
   – Select your book, tap PRINT or EBOOK to begin, then read aloud.

Sharing your screen with a wired connection

Note: Sharing with a wired connection is only possible on Mac.

1. In your meeting, click Share Screen
2. Choose iPhone/iPad via Cable.
3. To share your phone and Novel Effect audio into the meeting, check Share computer sound
4. Click Share.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions displayed.
   – Connect your iPhone or iPad via cable.
   – When prompted on the iOS device, select Trust.
   – Enter your passcode if required.
   – Your phone is now shared into the meeting.
6. From your iOS device home screen open the Novel Effect App
   – Select your book, tap PRINT or EBOOK to begin, then read aloud.

SCREEN & AUDIO SHARING USING YOUR PHONE OR TABLET

Before you start, update your device:

The latest version of Novel Effect installed
iOS 13 or later
Android 10 or later
The latest version of Teams Mobile installed

Starting a screen share in your Microsoft Teams meeting:

1. In the Teams Mobile app meeting controls, tap the ellipsis icon in the menu.
2. Tap Share
3. Check that the Audio setting is turned on to share your device audio while screen sharing
4. Tap Share Screen
   A menu will pop up to indicate where you’ll share your screen. Select Microsoft Teams.
5. Your device is now shared into the meeting.
6. From your device home screen open the Novel Effect App
   Select your book, tap PRINT or EBOOK to begin, then read aloud.

Before you start, gather these Items:

• A mobile device with the latest version of Novel Effect installed
• A device for filming
  – This should be a second phone or tablet, or a computer with a camera
  – Check that the image in the camera is not mirrored (so book text is shown correctly)
• A bluetooth speaker
• Your copy of the paper book
  – If your video features an ebook, we recommend running Novel Effect using a tablet to best display the ebook

Tips for the best video setup:

• Find a quiet place. Look for carpeted floors, no air conditioning, minimal windows, and low ambient noises
• Use adequate lighting and don’t sit directly in front of windows to avoid backlighting

Connect Novel Effect to a bluetooth speaker for the best sound in your video

iOS devices

• Go to your iOS device Settings
• Tap Bluetooth
• Tap your speaker’s name to connect
• Open Novel Effect and choose your book
• The Connect icon will appear blue when connected
  – If the icon is not blue, tap it then select your speaker from the list that appears
  – If your speaker doesn’t appear in the list return to your iOS device settings to try again

Android devices

• Open Novel Effect and choose your book
• Tap Connect at the bottom center of your screen
• Tap Previously connected devices and select your device from the list that appears
• Tap Pair new device and follow the prompts to connect to a new speaker
• Tap the back button from the device menu to return to Novel Effect

Happy reading and recording!

• Try a practice reading on camera then watch it play back to check that your set-up and sound is working well.
• Adjust the volume and the placement of the bluetooth speaker closer or further from the filming device until the volume levels sound right.
• When you practice, read through the whole book with Novel Effect a couple times to get comfortable with the timing of the sound effects.
