Novel Effect developed an innovative content partnership with PJ Library, a program of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, which sends free Jewish children’s books and activities to families around the world. This partnership aims to increase the diversity of content available in the Novel Effect app while creating new and exciting ways for PJ Library families to connect with Jewish life through storybooks.

In late 2022, Novel Effect created a soundscape for the PJ Library book Hanukkah at Monica’s, by Varda Livney, which tells the story of a group of friends celebrating the holiday together. The soundscape features music, sound effects, and character voices that bring the story to life.

The response to the Hanukkah at Monica’s soundscape was overwhelmingly positive, and many families reported that it enhanced their holiday celebrations. So when PJ Library was looking for ways to engage families during Passover, they turned to Novel Effect once again.

For Passover 2023, Novel Effect created a soundscape for a portion of PJ Library’s own Haggadah, the text that is read during the Seder meal. The soundscape includes authentic music, sound effects, and even some pronunciation of Hebrew words that help kids stay engaged and excited throughout the long meal.
